Don't Fall for This Insurance Trap After a Wreck

The Trap: Signing a Release Too Early

One thing you must avoid after a wreck is signing a release early on.

  • There is no real benefit to you.
  • It can bar your future claims.

Insurance companies like Allstate and Progressive are notorious for pushing early releases.

The Catch with “Future Medical”

These companies may offer you future medical coverage, but here’s the trick:

  • The coverage is only open for a short period of time (60–90 days).
  • You must use all the medical coverage within that timeframe.

Example:

  • $10,000 in open medical
  • Only 60–90 days to use it

Why This is a Problem

What if your injuries get worse after that window closes?

  • You may later need an MRI.
  • That MRI could show a herniated disc in your neck.
  • You might need surgery.

But by then, your “future medical” coverage is gone, and you have no recourse against the insurance company.

If you don’t have health insurance, you’re left to fend for yourself.

Never sign a release early. Protect your rights and make sure you know the full extent of your injuries before agreeing to anything.
